THE RUNAWAY (Bethany S. Moore, 2006)
Night falls, the day is cloaked
in darkness.
Tears fall upon the bed
in darkness.
Memories come but all is clouded
by darkness;
Thoughts come of how you left:
by darkness.
You said that you would never leave;
You said that you would always be
my hero.
I thought I could rely on you,
I thought that I could call you true;
my hero.
Yet you betrayed me; lied to me
in daylight.
I discovered what you’d done
in daylight.
My heart was torn, my spirit crushed
by daylight.
You trampled love upon the ground
by daylight.
I used to watch for your return,
with eagerness my heart would yearn
for you.
Yet never did you come that way,
yet always did I plead and pray
for you.
Years have passed, my thoughts have faded
into darkness.
So long, I fear your name shall plunge
into darkness.
Why can’t you turn and see the light
through darkness?
Why can’t you hear Him calling you
through darkness?
Shall you remain but a shadow
in my mind? did you really go
forever?
Can it be that you and I
weren’t meant to be
forever?
Somehow I know that you’ll come back
by daylight.
You left by night, concealed in dark, yet you’ll return
by daylight.
Although the old times shan’t remain (the happy times we had
in daylight),
As long as I can call you mine, I’ll be glad to linger here
in daylight.
