I've been working on this song for the better part of year (possibly more than that). I had a chord progression and then completed the chorus, but just have not been happy with any of the completing verses that I have written. I had one version that I liked but I misplaced the scrap of paper I'd written it on and those words are lost forever, I'm afraid. I recently returned from Haiti and I felt God just meet me there in a powerful way and renew my life and my passion. On the flight back to the States I began to write the first verse and yesterday I completely finished the song. I hope to record it very soon as I have an interesting arrangement in my mind that I think will work nicely. Enjoy the lyrics (and please don't steal them!). I do not yet have a proper title for the song, but will get one soon I'm sure. :)
New Song - Bethany S. Moore (2011)
Verse 1 -- Moon is rising upon an empty field,
barren soil without yield,
seeds sown without hope, watered with tears.
And in the lifeless dust they toil to earn their bread.
And in the waxing dusk, he leans close and
says to her, as he takes her hand
and they run away, from this broken land.
Chorus -- We've gotta get out of here, the tide is rising fast;
The twilight seeping in before the daylight's breathed its last.
We've gotta get out of here, the waves they climb so high--
We'll bid this dying world its last goodbye.
Verse 2 -- I saw you in the prime of your life,
watched your spring
turn to frost.
And in this Charn-like shadowlight, our eyes beguile us,
we tend to lost ourselves amongst the crowded world.
And yet that distant melody is calling us to follow,
This mortal world may not make it through the morrow. (go to chorus)
Bridge -- There are no words left to speak when the world is torn asunder.
But in the loneliest crowd, hearts are joined together,
to travel East of the Moon, and West of the Sun.
Realize, realize, realize, realize, o my soul, realize, realize.
Realize, my soul, realize (open up your eyes)
Realize, realize, o my soul (to the things unseen)
Realize, o my soul, realize, (open up your eyes to)
where you belong
(go to first chorus then to END)
END - In this fading world, a light has pierced the dark,
The saving word that brings its hearers life.
And through this coming storm, hope yet lingers on,
As souls behold the long-awaited dawn.
